In November, 1959 the Western Maryland District of the American Legion, agreed to hold a free summer camp for low income, boys age 9-12 on a trial basis.

The first overnight encampment was held during Summer of 1960.  Forty boys attended with an all-volunteer staff for one week at Camp Summit near Emmitsburg, Maryland.

From 1960-1971 various sites were used for encampment; and in 1972 the first 2 week overnight camp was held at our present location.
